Open source from the islands: projects to watch

By Carib Devs Team · February 2026

The region's developers don't just ship products; they ship tools for each other. Here are a few open-source projects worth a star and, if you're able, a contribution.

Localization that includes us

Patois is a localization toolkit built for Caribbean Creole languages that mainstream tools ignore. If your product should speak to people in the language they actually use, it's a good place to start.

Data for the commons

Reef Watch and Tide both open up data that matters, reef health and marine weather, for researchers, fisherfolk, and anyone building on top. Open data is infrastructure, and the region needs more of it.

Building something open from the islands? Feature it on your profile and tell us. We'd love to include it next time.
